Your mission:
Mondi’s Data Science team drives value by applying machine learning, operations research and AI to business & operational data in the packaging & paper industry. - As part of an open-minded and curious team, you'll own the entire data science pipeline—from engaging directly with process experts to developing, prototyping, and deploying solutions—ensuring real-world impact through hands-on, collaborative work.
- You will work in cross-functional international teams consisting of other colleagues of Mondi IT as well as domain experts from our respective business units, paper mills and converting plants.
Your profile:
We are looking for a skilled and motivated individual with a passion for data science. To succeed in this role, you should have:
- Educational Background: A BSc/MSc/PhD in Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, Physics, or a related field.
- Professional Experience: 3+ years of proven experience in building data science solutions within a business setting. Experience in the manufacturing industry is advantageous.
- Project Expertise: Hands-on experience in executing end-to-end data science projects with large, real-world datasets withing a business setting. Experience in formulating and developing optimisation algorithms is advantageous.
Key Skills:

- Ability to translate complex manufacturing problems into effective analytical solutions.
- Proficiency in Python; additional knowledge of R or other programming languages is advantageous.
- Strong presentation and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex analytical concepts to a wide range of stakeholders, including engineers, operators, and colleagues at all organizational levels.
- Solid (practical and theoretical) understanding of statistics, machine learning techniques and optimisation methods.
- Experience with version control and deploying data science models in production.
- Skills in time series modelling, computer vision, or LLMs are advantageous.
- Experience with cloud environments (AWS/Azure) is advantageous.

We offer a minimum compensation package starting at € 55.000 gross/year on a full-time basis (38 hours/week), with the opportunity of overpayment depending on your experience, skills and qualification.
