Job Description

Position Title: Production Utility                               Organizational Unit: Industrial bags (Fibre Packaging)

FLSA: Non-Exempt                                                    Department: Mondi Bags Production

Date: July 2021                                                          Reports to: Production Manager                    

 

Job Summary:

 

The person in this position will perform the work necessary to support various production areas as required and directed. The person in this position should possess a moderate understanding of general aspects of the job. This person will work under the close direction of senior personnel in the functional area.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Complies with all safety rules, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Understands and follows lockout – tagout procedures for assigned equipment.
  • Understands and follows all quality rules and procedures and performs required quality checks on product being produced as directed.
  • Understands and follows all AIB policies and procedures including, but not limited to, procedures for food safety, housekeeping, personal hygiene, and auditing.
  • Monitors the quality of the bags during the production run through bag checks and other methods. 
  • Performs housekeeping duties in work area, including sweeping, mopping, picking up and disposing of trash.
  • Retrieve materials required for palletizing, and label finished pallets as required.
  • Retrieves finished product from the end of the machine.
  • Maintains productivity goals as specified by supervision.
  • Stacks and counts based on pallet size and stacking pattern as specified.
  • Counts scrap materials and delivers it to the scales as needed.
  • Performs rework or reclaim activities as assigned by the Value Stream Supervisor or Manager.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SCHEDULE DEMANDS:

 

  • Work schedules are normally 8 or 12 hours.
  • May be scheduled for rotating days off.
  • Ability to work any day, including weekends.
  • Able to work any shift, including overnight shifts.
  • Must be able to work overtime as needed, including extra hours on short notice.

 

Physical Requirements:

 

  • Capable of hearing, with or without correction, sufficiently to perceive normal speaking levels and receive detailed information through oral communication in order to work with internal customers and stakeholders by telephone and in person.
  • Position may involve kneeling, stooping, bending, pushing, lifting, carrying and moving objects and lift up to 50 pounds; anything over 50 pounds requires two people, or lifting assistance device. 
  • Capable of speaking, writing, and reading English well and possessing a good command of the language so that various types of communications may be conducted in English with people of various levels of education and capabilities.
  • Capable of visual acuity, with or without correction, sufficient to prepare and analyze data and figures, view a computer terminal, and read.
  • The employee must be able to work any scheduled times, including overnight and weekend shifts as needed.
  • Ability to use hand truck, drum dolly, and electric pallet jack as needed.
  • Standing for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Climbing ladders and/or stairways.

 

Education and Experience:

 

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Attention to Detail, Emphasizing Excellence, and Innovation.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to read a tape measure helpful.

 

Work Environment: 

 

  • Must have the ability to work on more than one assignment at a time with frequent interruptions, changes and/or delays.
  • Must be able to remain focused on work effectively, efficiently, and cheerfully under such circumstances.
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and wet and/or humid conditions or moderate heat.
  • Exposure to noise, and varying temperatures in plant operations.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds.
  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.
  • Must be able to see and respond in potentially hazardous situations.
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (including but not limited to steel toe shoes, earplugs, safety glasses, and hairnet).
