Role Summary
The Shift Supervisor is responsible for overseeing day-to-day manufacturing operations at our Salt Lake City plant to ensure safety, quality, and productivity targets are met. This role provides direct leadership to hourly employees on shift and works closely with the Manufacturing Managers to maintain production efficiency, control labor costs, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
The Shift Supervisor ensures compliance with operational standards, safety regulations, quality requirements, and the Collective Bargaining Agreement, while fostering a positive and productive work environment.
Your Mission
- Supervise employees in day-to-day operations to ensure safety, quality, and productivity
- Maintain and improve production output by effectively planning and adjusting manpower, materials, and machine resources to meet daily production and cost targets
- Ensure compliance with established run speeds and setup times, verifying accuracy on orders and monitoring hourly
- Investigate personnel, process, and equipment performance shortfalls; identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence
- Provide support for on-the-job assignments and continuous improvement initiatives
- Clearly communicate expectations to employees on shift
- Review quality checklists every hour
- Maintain all required logs and reporting documents and adhere to all safety regulations, procedures, and policies, including Safety Scorecards
- Complete reclaim activities generated during the assigned shift
- Communicate effectively through “WhatsApp,” to include a recap of shift production by machine and issues impacting production requirements
- Train, motivate, and mentor both new and existing employees
- Conduct performance evaluations for new hires and trainees
- Enforce company policies, quality procedures, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), addressing non-compliance on the shift it occurs and documenting issues as required
- Understand and enforce the Collective Bargaining Agreement
- Hold employees accountable for performance standards by coaching in real time, addressing shortfalls constructively, and documenting issues when necessary
- Monitor report-offs and fill vacancies according to contract guidelines
- Review, update, and approve shift timesheets daily and meet payroll deadlines
- Participate in mandatory meetings
Your Profile
- Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent applicable work-related experience
- 3–5 years of supervisory experience in manufacturing, with floor supervision and/or maintenance experience required
- Experience with Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methods preferred
- Mechanical aptitude for problem solving
- Industrial safety training preferred
- Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to evaluate performance metrics and resolve operational challenges
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to adapt to changing organizational and operational needs and lead others through change
- Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to train on complex topics clearly and concisely
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to interact across all levels of the organization
- Broad understanding of business operations, performance metrics, and customer value
- Self-confident with the ability to respond constructively to challenges
* This position requires flexibility to work assigned shifts, which may include days and evenings or nights, weekends and holidays based on operational needs.
