Role Summary:
The Technical Service & Continuous Improvement Engineer provides expert technical support to customers and internal teams while driving operational excellence through structured process improvement initiatives. This hybrid role combines hands‑on technical problem-solving, customer-facing support, and Lean/Six Sigma–based improvement efforts to enhance product performance, service quality, and operational efficiency.
Your Mission:
Technical Service & Support
- Maintain and update detailed technical drawings, specifications, and design files for multiwall sack constructions.
- Partner with procurement to evaluate and qualify new materials and suppliers.
- Support product qualification trials ensuring successful integration into production processes.
- Contributes to the design, testing, and validation of multiwall paper bag structures and material specifications to meet customer requirements.
- Coordinate third‑party laboratory testing, including specialized services such as UN/DOT certification testing.
- Support Bag School training programs for Customers, Operations, Sales and other external/internal employees.
- Troubleshoot product and process issues by gathering data, performing root‑cause analysis, and driving cross‑functional corrective actions.
- Prepare and deliver monthly reports summarizing business development activities and technical project progress.
- Maintain accurate documentation required for ISO, SQF, and other applicable quality‑management systems.
- Maintain an up‑to‑date understanding of plant capabilities and communicate them to internal and external teams.
- Serve as the key user for UpKeep and Reach digital platforms.
- Manage UL documentation requirements and coordinate quarterly UL audits to ensure compliance.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret production data to identify opportunities for process optimization and efficiency improvements.
- Assist finance with maintaining ISCA article groups and related COPA configuration data.
- Support procurement and supply chain teams by identifying and validating suitable material substitutions.
- Perform bag sizing calculations and develop sizing recommendations based on product requirements and manufacturing constraints.
Continuous Improvement (CI)
- Analyze production or service processes to identify waste, bottlenecks, and opportunities for improvement.
- Lead structured problem-solving initiatives and root-cause analyses.
- Develop and maintain process documentation, SOPs, and visual management systems.
- Collect and analyze operational data (KPIs, cycle time, OEE, defect rates, downtime, etc.)
- Use statistical analysis to validate improvements and quantify impact.
- Present performance trends and project results to leadership.
- Foster a continuous improvement mindset across operations, engineering, and support teams.
Customer & Internal Collaboration
- Communicate complex technical issues clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Work closely with Quality and Operations to drive feedback loops and prevent reoccurrence of failures.
- Assist Sales and technical sales with technical insights, customer trials, and product performance evaluations that ensure customer needs can be met.
- Perform additional tasks as directed.
Your Profile:
- Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering (preferred). Also open to Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or related field
- Working knowledge of Lean or Continuous improvement tools (5S, VSM, Kaizen, RCA)
- Experience in manufacturing, industrial equipment or technical service environments preferred
- Familiarity with EPR systems being SAP the most preferred; and data analysis tools (Excel, PowerBI and Minitab) preferred
- Experience implementing Standard Work, visual management, or service process improvements preferred
- Strong trouble-shooting, diagnostic and analytics skills – high attention to detail
Hands-on technical experience in service, maintenance, engineering, or field support - Ability to work independently and ability to interact at multiple levels within management and functional groups both internally and externally
- Excellent communication skills for both customer-facing and internal collaboration
Ability to travel to customer sites, Mondi facilities and trade shows as required
