ROLE SUMMARY
The Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant accounting operations, including financial close, reconciliations, accruals management, tax and regulatory compliance, and audit support. This role serves as the senior technical accounting resource within the finance team and supports the Financial Controller through high-quality reporting, analysis, and continuous process improvement.
The Senior Accountant reports to the Financial Controller and plays a key role in maintaining strong financial controls and reliable financial reporting within an industrial manufacturing environment.
YOUR MISSION
• Lead and execute month-end, half-year, and year-end close activities, including journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations
• Prepare, maintain, and review balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely resolution of variances
• Prepare monthly financial statements and supporting schedules in accordance with IFRS and internal policies
• Maintain the monthly accruals schedule, including tracking prior-period reversals and anticipated expenses
• Oversee intercompany transactions and reconciliations
• Support accounts payable, payroll accounting, inventory, and fixed asset accounting processes
• Act as a technical accounting resource to operational teams and junior accounting staff
• Prepare and file tax and regulatory submissions (e.g., GST, payroll remittances, pensions, property tax)
• Support internal, external, and tax audits by providing accurate documentation, reconciliations, and explanations
• Assist with budgeting and forecasting by providing financial data, trend analysis, and accrual accuracy
• Identify and implement operational improvements within accounting processes, controls, and reporting frameworks
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, company policies, and regulatory standards
• Perform other finance-related duties as required
YOUR PROFILE
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• CPA designation required (or near completion with clear progression)
• 6–8 years of progressive accounting experience
• Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment preferred
• Strong understanding of IFRS, financial close processes, and internal controls
• Advanced Excel and ERP system proficiency; SAP experience is an asset
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and attention to detail
• Ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced environment
• Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
• Strong communication, collaboration, and professional judgment
WORKING CONDITIONS
• Office-based within an industrial setting (administration building at a pulp mill)
• Occasional extended hours during reporting periods, audits, and budget cycles
• Evening, weekend, or holiday work may be required at times
• Periodic site walk-throughs in mill areas (PPE required)
• Fast-paced and deadline-driven work environment

This role is based in Hinton, Alberta, located approximately 20 minutes east of Jasper National Park and about 2½ hours west of Edmonton.
