Role Summary:

The Process Engineer supports safe, efficient mill operations by optimizing production processes, improving performance, and resolving process and control issues. Reporting to the Superintendent Process Engineering, this role plays a key part in continuous improvement, capital project execution, and operational excellence while partnering closely with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams.

 

Your Mission:

• Develop and monitor KPIs, including downtime tracking and production loss reporting, to improve process performance
• Troubleshoot and analyze process and control issues to restore performance and prevent recurrence
• Optimize operating conditions to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and maintain safe, stable production
• Identify and implement continuous improvement and cost-saving opportunities through process optimization, waste reduction, and energy efficiency
• Collaborate with Operations to provide guidance on process control, operating parameters, and improvement opportunities
• Establish, document, and maintain process best practices and process control functional specifications
• Support capital project development and participate in maintenance turnarounds
• Monitor key process variables to improve product quality, reduce variability, and ensure efficient operations
• Mentor, train, and develop engineers and operators to strengthen process knowledge and decision-making
• Actively pursue ongoing personal and professional development

 

Your Profile:

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Process, or related Engineering discipline
• Eligibility for Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in Alberta is an asset
• Experience in pulp and paper or industrial/manufacturing environments preferred
• Familiarity with process control systems and data tools (DCS, PI, Excel or similar)
• Experience supporting capital projects or process improvement initiatives
• Valid driver’s license and ability to work in industrial environments
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Effective communication across all levels of the organization
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team
• Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to detail
• Adaptable and able to manage multiple priorities
• Proficiency in data analysis, process control systems, and technical documentation
• Continuous improvement mindset with commitment to safety and operational excellence
• Leadership potential with interest in mentoring others
