Maintenance Technologist (Electrical / Instrumentation)

Your mission: 
As an Electrical and Instrumentation Maintenance Technologist, you will serve as a technical resource within the Maintenance department, contributing to the optimization of processes, procedures, and technical specifications within the E/I Department. This position involves updating and maintaining job plans, ensuring the upkeep of information in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), and providing training and support to Electrical and Instrumentation workers.  The role will require collaboration with all mill personnel and departments.  This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem from time to time.

  • Provide ongoing safety training for oneself and team members, including Electrical and Instrumentation workers, to promote awareness and understanding of safety protocols
  • Inspection and maintenance of electrical tools and instrumentation equipment to ensure their safety and proper functioning. Provide training on their safe usage
  • Assist in development and implementation of arc flash safety programs, including equipment labeling and creating safe work zones to reduce the risk of arc flash incidents
  • Perform weekly in field safety observations
  • Maintain safety-related documentation to demonstrate compliance and track progress in maintaining a safe work environment
  • Maintain and update asset information within the CMMS with accurate information regarding asset hierarchy, OEM specifications, parts lists, changes, Bill of Materials (BOM), and completing relevant New Inventory Requests (NIR). Ensure that the equipment files for Electrical and Instrumentation are current and reflects the most recent equipment data
  • Maintain consistent and correct information in job plans and the job plan library for both preventative maintenance and corrective repairs while maintaining a consistent format.  Ensure correct parts and consumables are called out in the job plan
  • Provide training to Electrical and Instrumentation workers, focusing on areas such as PLC Programming, E3 Relays, and other relevant skills to enhance the team's capabilities
  • Serve as a resource to the Planners and Electrical and Instrumentation Superintendent, offering guidance and expertise on electrical and instrumentation maintenance matters 
  • Ensure that all electrical and instrumentation systems associated with pressure equipment are in full compliance with ABSA (Alberta Boilers Safety Association) regulations and other relevant industry standards
  • Collaborate with the relevant departments to ensure the overall integrity and reliability of pressure equipment, particularly in terms of electrical and instrumentation systems are being followed
  • Coordinate and Supervise Turnaround Maintenance jobs during the annual shutdown to ensure that electrical and instrumentation tasks are executed efficiently and safely

  • Good understanding of Planning and Scheduling best practices
  • Familiarity with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and maintenance best practices
  • Proficient in use of Microsoft products: Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project
  • Strong knowledge of PLC Programming, E3 Relays, and other relevant technologies
  • Education and /or Experience
  • College or University diploma/degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical/Instrumentation trade certification and/or 5 to 10 years’ experience 
  • Proven experience in electrical and instrumentation maintenance in an industrial or manufacturing environment
