ROLE SUMMARY
The Human Resources Generalist provides comprehensive HR support for our Hinton pulp mill and its ~450 employees. Duties will span the employee lifecycle, including recruitment, employee relations, performance management, compliance, and training and development. This role supports both union and non-union employees and acts as a key liaison between management and staff to foster a positive, productive, and compliant work environment. The HR Generalist partners closely with leaders and union representatives to ensure consistent application of HR policies, adherence to employment legislation, and alignment with Mondi values.
YOUR MISSION
• Manage the full-cycle recruitment process, including job postings, candidate screening, interviews, offers, and onboarding
• Serve as a primary point of contact for employee relations matters, addressing concerns and grievances in a fair, timely, and effective manner
• Partner with union representatives to support the collective bargaining agreement, grievance processes, and labor-management relationships
• Support performance management processes, including performance reviews, feedback conversations, and improvement plans
• Assist in the design and delivery of training and development programs aligned with business needs
• Ensure compliance with local, provincial, and federal employment laws and remain current on legislative changes
• Maintain and analyze HR metrics such as turnover, recruitment effectiveness, and employee engagement to provide insights to leadership
• Advise managers on HR policies and practices, ensuring consistency, legal compliance, and alignment with company values
• Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive employee information with discretion and professionalism
YOUR PROFILE
• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
• CPHR designation is an asset
• 2–5 years of experience in an HR Generalist or similar role
• Experience working in a unionized environment
• Strong knowledge of HR practices, labor laws, and employment regulations
• Proficiency with HRIS systems, payroll platforms, and Microsoft Office
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Confident, effective communicator with strong time management skills
