Environmental Superintendent

Your mission:
The Environmental Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all environmental activities at the Kraft Pulp mill. This includes ensuring compliance with provincial and federal laws, ISO 14001 standards, and engaging with the community for sustainable operations. This list of duties and responsibilities is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities as management may deem from time to time.

  • Monitor and enforce all environmental permits, regulations, and legislation applicable to the mill operations.
  • Coordinate and manage annual environmental reporting and audits.
  • Ensure the mill’s environmental management system complies with ISO 14001 standards.
  • Lead internal and external ISO 14001 audits and address non-compliance issues.
  • Develop, implement, and manage programs aimed at reducing the mill’s environmental impact.
  • Oversee the management and disposal of waste products in compliance with provincial and federal regulations.
  • Engage with the local community to discuss environmental initiatives and concerns, building positive relations and trust.
  • Direct and manage the Environmental Team, including recruitment, performance evaluations, and professional development.
  • Work closely with other departments, such as Production and Safety, to integrate environmental considerations into daily operations.
  • Participate in emergency response planning and actions relating to environmental incidents.
  • Develop and manage the budget for the environmental department, ensuring optimal allocation of resources.

  • Familiarity with Alberta environmental regulations and ISO 14001 is a must.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and industry-specific software.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and project management skills. 
  • Strong analytical abilities, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail. 
  • A genuine commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role within the pulp and paper industry.
