About the Role
The Buyer is responsible for ensuring the cost-effective, timely, and compliant procurement of materials and services that support mill operations. This role focuses on building strong supplier partnerships, supporting sourcing initiatives, optimizing total cost of ownership, and delivering value through effective supplier and contract management. Working closely with Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and key suppliers, the Buyer helps ensure the reliable supply of goods and services that support business performance and operational excellence.
Your Mission
• Manage the procurement process from requisition review through purchase order creation, supplier follow-up, and delivery coordination.
• Analyze purchase requisitions, convert them into purchase orders, and expedite deliveries when required.
• Understand internal customer requirements and ensure business needs are met in a timely and cost-effective manner.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and contractors.
• Coordinate communication between suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to support procurement activities.
• Prepare, distribute, evaluate, and analyze Requests for Information (RFI), Requests for Quotation (RFQ), and Requests for Proposal (RFP).
• Evaluate supplier proposals and perform commercial analyses to support sourcing decisions.
• Negotiate pricing, contracts, and commercial terms to deliver value and cost savings.
• Manage supplier qualification and contractor pre-qualification processes.
• Monitor supplier performance and drive continuous improvement through established assessment tools.
• Identify and implement cost reduction, value creation, and Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) initiatives.
• Analyze supplier performance, market trends, and sourcing risks to support informed purchasing decisions.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
Your Profile
• Experience in procurement or a related field such as maintenance, spare parts management, warehouse operations, inventory management, planning, engineering support, or manufacturing.
• Experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment is preferred.
• Knowledge of procurement, sourcing, maintenance, inventory management, or supplier management processes.
• Experience working with suppliers, contractors, commercial agreements, or negotiations is desirable.
• Professional procurement qualifications such as SCMP are considered an asset.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities with the capability to engage stakeholders at all levels.
• Proactive, self-motivated, and capable of managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to supporting operational and business needs.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, Outlook, and Word.
• Experience with ERP systems is considered an asset.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Demonstrated willingness to learn, develop, and grow within procurement and supply chain management.
