Summary:

The Shipping Manager is responsible for the safe handling, storage, and shipment of all finished goods produced at our paper bags manufacturing facility. This role oversees movement of pallets from production lines, product strapping and packing, warehouse storage, inventory accuracy, and all outbound logistics.  Safety is foundational to this position, adhering to every safety guideline, maintaining a safe work environment, and promoting a strong safety culture is essential

 

 

Your Mission:

 

Supervision/Personnel:

Oversee the day-to-day operations in the Shipping Department and its personnel staff, assign tasks, and ensure that operations are conducted efficiently and according to schedule.  Interviews and make selection recommendations.  Provides initial and on-going training and evaluation of personnel related to job duties and performance expectations. Lead, coach, and develop warehouse staff, fostering a productive and positive working environment.

 

Finished Goods Handling & Warehouse Operations

Manage the movement of all finished goods from production lines, including pallet removal, palletizing, strapping, wrapping, labeling, and staging.

Ensure that finished goods are stored properly to maintain product quality and prevent damage (stacking, spacing, moisture control).

Oversee daily warehouse organization, cleanliness, and adherence to 5S principles.

Ensure FIFO practices are followed for all finished goods.

 

Shipping & Outbound Logistics

Plan and coordinate all outbound shipments, ensuring accuracy, timely delivery, and compliance with customer requirements.

Manage shipping documentation including bills of lading, shipment labels, pallet tags, and carrier paperwork.

Schedule and coordinate with carriers; oversee trailer loading for accuracy, safety, and space utilization.

Resolve any outbound logistics issues, including freight discrepancies or damage claims.

Shipping: Manage the dispatch of goods, ensuring all documentation is accurate and up to date.

 

 

Safety Leadership

Maintain a workplace where safety is part of the DNA—reinforcing safe behaviors, proper PPE usage, and equipment safety.

Ensure compliance with all OSHA regulations, company safety guidelines, and material-handling protocols.

Conduct safety audits, incident investigations, and continuous safety training for warehouse and shipping employees.

Ensure forklifts and material-handling equipment are inspected, certified, and operated safely.

 

Team Leadership & Development

Lead and supervise shipping clerks, forklift drivers, warehouse associates, and pallet-handling personnel.

Train employees in safe work practices, proper pallet handling, strapping/packing procedures, and shipping processes.

Provide coaching, performance evaluations, and corrective action where appropriate.

Maintain appropriate staffing and shift coverage to support production and shipping requirements.

 

Inventory Management & Control

Ensure accurate finished goods inventory through routine cycle counts and reconciliation with system data.

Maintain precise SAP updates for all product movements, scanning, shipments, and adjustments.

Coordinate with production and planning teams to support order fulfillment and maintain inventory accuracy.

Identify discrepancies, investigate root causes, and implement corrective actions.

 

Continuous Improvement

Develop and enhance SOPs for shipping, pallet handling, warehouse operations, and inventory control.

Identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve efficiency, and enhance product flow from production to warehouse to shipment.

Participate in or lead cost reduction, process improvement, and layout optimization initiatives.

 

Equipment Maintenance

Ensure all warehouse equipment, such as forklifts and pallet strapper machine unit, are in good working condition and arrange for maintenance and repairs as needed.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Your Profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration or Transportation/Logistics or the equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of experience in shipping, warehouse, or logistics management in a manufacturing environment
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Experience with ERP/WMS systems for inventory and shipping.  SAP is preferred
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to operate or supervise operation of forklifts and material-handling equipment
  • Strong decision-making ability and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to interact at multiple levels within management, and functional groups both internally and externally
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Ability to use discretion with confidential and sensitive information
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, detailed oriented, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels of employees and management
