Summary: 

The Materials Manager is responsible for the planning and coordination of a company’s raw materials and monitoring inventory levels to ensure the company is cost effective and be able to meet the needs of our customers through every planned sales order.  In addition to this, this role is responsible for the receipt and storage of raw materials, goods that are essential for the production process.  The role is critical for ensuring smooth operations, quality control, and adherence to production schedules.  Works closely with scheduler, buyer and production departments to ensure that all good business practices are being conducted as well as safety guidelines are being followed. 

 

 

Your Mission: 

  • Materials Management: Manages the material requirements planning process for all incoming sales orders, ensuring timely and complete availability of raw materials to meet production schedules and customer delivery dates; additionally maintains optimal inventory levels for Min/Max and VMI items to ensure uninterrupted supply 

  • Supplier’s Management: Manages relationships with raw‑material suppliers, oversees the procurement of materials based on operational needs, and evaluates supplier performance to ensure quality, reliability, and alignment with company requirements 

  • Ensures that the company standard practices and procedures are followed in connection with all materials department functions 

  • Supervision/Personnel:  Oversee the day-to-day operations in the Receiving Department and its personnel staff, assign tasks, and ensure that operations are conducted efficiently and according to schedule 

  • Collaboration with Production: Communicates with the production team to ensure they have the necessary materials for uninterrupted manufacturing, contributing to overall production efficiency.  This includes the slitting schedule management (if applicable) 

  • Receiving and Inspection: Ensures that all incoming materials, such as paper rolls, poly and adhesives, and other supplies are received in good condition and match the order specifications (quantity, quality, etc.) 

  • Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of all received materials, update inventory systems, and ensure stock levels are aligned with production needs.  Ensures full compliance with all quality assurance standards, especially good housekeeping and overall cleanliness of products and work areas.  Establishes procedures and supervises the annual physical inventory 

  • Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety protocols during the receiving process, especially with the operation of heavy machinery like forklifts and issues permits and ensure compliance with plant safety standards.  Oversee and inspects and reports storage racks daily in the Department and reports findings to the safety coordinator 

  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate documentation for all receiving activities, ensuring that reports are generated for management on stock levels, discrepancies or other concerns.  Determines SOP’s and the 5’s that are needed in department and implements what is needed 

  • Trailer Positioning: Move and position trailers in designated areas, ensuring alignment with loading docks and storage locations as required. Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures, ensuring that the movement of trailers is conducted safely and without incident. Conduct regular inspections of trailers to identify and report any maintenance issues or defects 

  • Maintenance: Regularly inspect dock doors and storage racks to identify any issues or necessary repairs. Coordinate with external contractors for specialized repairs and maintenance tasks 

  • Maintain a positive working environment among employees 

  • Reviews, updates, and approves employees’ time sheets 

  • Participate in monthly update/review meetings 

  • Other duties as assigned

Your Profile: 

  • At least 5 years manufacturing or related experience 

  • A bachelor’s degree is preferred, or equivalent and applicable work-related experience 

  • Strong communication and negotiation skills required 

  • Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management 

  • Working knowledge of SAP 

  • Technical Training preferred 

  • Industrial Safety Training preferred 

  • Willingness to work flexible schedules 

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills 

  • Ability to use discretion with confidential and sensitive information 

  • Must be able to use the following computer programs: Excel, Word, PowerPoint 

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, detailed oriented, and interpersonal skills 

  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with all levels of employees and management
